Many believe that marriage is meant to be a sacred bond that should lead to a lifelong commitment. However, the world of celebrities often witnesses whirlwind romances that end abruptly, leaving fans and the media in shock. For example, these celebrity marriages lasted less than a year (and even less than a week in some cases).

1. Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds (Two Weeks)

In January 2008, Eddie Murphy and producer Tracey Edmonds went their separate ways just two weeks after their supposed marriage in Bora Bora. Here’s the thing, though, they never really completed the necessary paperwork to make it legally binding. So, their “divorce” was more like canceling plans for a legal ceremony.

2. Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly (Ten Months)

Talk about a whirlwind romance! Right after Jim Carrey filed for divorce from his first wife, Melissa Womer, in 1993, he wasted no time going public with his relationship with his Dumb & Dumber co-star, Lauren Holly.

In September 1996, they had a quiet mountain-top wedding, followed by a cozy honeymoon with a few close friends. But less than a year later, in July 1997, they called it quits. Holly had secretly started dating another co-star, Edward Burns, while Carrey eventually moved on with Renee Zellweger.

3. Britney Spears and Jason Alexander (55 Hours)

Here’s a major “Oops!” moment in Britney’s life — or you could say a “that’s what you get for waking up in Vegas” moment, borrowing from another pop star’s lyrics. So, in 2004, Britney flew her childhood friend and alleged booty call, Jason Alexander (not George Costanza), to Las Vegas.

They had a wild New Year’s night out and ended up at the infamous Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip, where they tied the knot. Mind you, Britney was rocking distressed denim and a crop top!

But guess what? The following day, she woke up, told her mom and manager, and everyone lost their minds. Before you knew it, the marriage was annulled because Britney “lacked understanding of her actions.”

4. Nicolas Cage and Erika Koike (Four Days)

Talk about a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it marriage! Most of us didn’t even know Nicolas Cage was dating makeup artist Erika Koike, and boom, they were married.

But oh well, just four days after their secret wedding in Las Vegas (yep, Vegas strikes again!) in March 2019, Cage filed for an annulment. And to add some extra drama, there was a public argument between them hours before the annulment filing.

5. Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen (Eight Months)

Elisabeth Moss, the talented star of The Handmaid’s Tale, had a brief stint as the wife of Saturday Night Live alum Fred Armisen. Their love story, unfortunately, didn’t have a happy ending. They were married for just eight months between 2009 and 2010, and Moss later revealed it was a tough time for her.

In a 2014 interview with New York Magazine, she described it as a highly traumatic and awful period. However, she also mentioned that it was for the best.

6. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio (Nine Months)

Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio walked down the aisle in January 1954. Still, their marriage hit a speed bump, and they divorced nine months later in October. Monroe claimed “mental cruelty” as the reason for their split.

However, despite their rocky past, they seemed to reconcile and become friends in later years until Monroe’s untimely death in 1962.

7. Mario Lopez and Ali Landry (Two Weeks)

Here’s a juicy one: Mario Lopez and Ali Landry had barely said their “I do’s” at their beach wedding before things fell apart. The reason? Mario went and did Ali dirty — he cheated on her during his bachelor party. And to add some extra spice, someone snuck a photo of the scandalous event and sent it to Ali’s sister. Ouch!

To make matters worse, in his 2014 memoir, Mario revealed that he was never really in love with Ali—stone cold.

8. Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian (72 days)

Remember when Kim Kardashian’s extravagant wedding was all the rage? Well, brace yourself because just 72 days after their over-the-top August 2011 ceremony, Kim filed for divorce from her NBA star husband, Kris Humphries.

Irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for their split. In a March 2019 essay, Humphries expressed that despite the public spectacle surrounding their relationship, their bond was 100 percent real.

9. Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson (Four Months)

Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson had their moment as a married couple, but it was short-lived. After just four months, they decided to call it quits. Rumor had it that their split was fueled by Kid Rock’s jealousy over Pamela’s appearance in Borat.

However, the rocker later revealed to Howard Stern that money disputes and family drama played a significant role in their separation.

10. Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus (Eight Months)

Ah, the rollercoaster romance of Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus. After meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2009, they had an on-again, off-again relationship. They even engaged in 2012, but sadly, it only lasted until September 2013.

However, love brought them back together, and they finally tied the knot in December 2018. But as fate would have it, their separation was confirmed in August 2019, and shortly after, Hemsworth filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Guess Miley really is a wild card.
